National Director's June 2018 Update
Updated On: Jul 186, 2018

July 5, 2018

Dear Members:

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July, which marked 242 years of independence for this great Nation we live in. Can you believe this year is half over? In June 2018 your AMFA Officers were very busy and productive at both Alaska Airlines (ASA) and Southwest Airlines (SWA).

The AMFA–ASA Negotiating Committee just completed a 20-station roadshow to discuss and answer questions from both the AMFA?ASA and Legacy Virgin employees regarding the Transition and Seniority Integration Agreements Referendum. I would like to thank everyone who assisted with security escorts and transportation at the 20 stations we visited. Personalized voting instructions were mailed to eligible voters on June 28, 2018. Anyone with questions about the voting process should contact the AMFA Administration Director at 720-744-6629. The voting period will end at 10:00 AM ET on July 19, 2018.

The AMFA-SWA Negotiating Committee reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) with Southwest Airlines (SWA) for the AMTs on June 27, 2018, and the National Executive Council subsequently met late that afternoon to vote and approve the TA. I extend my admiration and respect for the patience and professionalism of our SWA members during this extensive negotiation process.  Your Negotiating Committee has been working to coordinate schedules to get as many of the Committee members as possible on the roadshow to provide you with detailed information and give you the opportunity to ask questions before ballots are mailed. Tentatively, the roadshow to the major stations will commence the week of July 16, 2018. Stay tuned to your Local website, the Southwest Airlines News & Updates page of the AMFA National website, the AMFA App, as well as Association Facebook pages for further details regarding the upcoming roadshow schedule and ratification referendum.

We will remain unified as we educate you on the contents of this package. I understand many of you feel you are entitled to a better compensation package, but the Company made it abundantly clear they were not willing to move any further. Therefore, it is time for the group to vote - to collectively voice your opinion on the contents of this TA. Understand the industry is constantly changing: Delta Airlines released to their AMTs via memo that they will again be given an increase of 3% in wages effective October 1, 2018, and American Airlines is offering their AMTs more increases in wages and benefits as well.

I ask you to stay engaged with your union updates and officers.  For more carrier specific updates and further information regarding AMFA and the airline industry, please visit the AMFA National Website at www.AMFANational.org. Our most determined efforts will only succeed with your continued support and participation – please stay informed.

Sincerely,

Bret Oestreich
National Director
