National Director's July 2019 Update
Updated On: Aug 220, 2019

August 8, 2019

Dear Members:

July was another busy month for AMFA at Alaska (AS) and Southwest Airlines (SWA), as well as the opening of another chapter at Horizon Air. AMFA filed authorization cards with the National Mediation Board (NMB) on behalf of the Mechanic and Related employees of Horizon Airlines and a representation election has been authorized. Voting ends at 2:00 PM ET on August 21, 2019, the day of the tally.

The AMFA–ASA Transition and Seniority Integration Agreements were ratified by a majority vote of the membership on July 18, 2019. The participation for this referendum raised the bar with Boeing employees at 91.43% and Airbus employees at 82.46% participation. Single Carrier status has been filed with the National Mediation Board and we are awaiting their determination. Please monitor the Alaska Airlines News and Updates page of the AMFA National website for further details.

AMFA–SWA AMTs should have received their ratification bonus on or about June 20, 2019. Additionally, they have received monies for the full retro difference for the period of April 1 to July 15, 2019; the new pay rate was applied for July 16–31, 2019, and will be payable on August 5, 2019. On August 16, 2019, you will receive another 3% raise on your base pay rate, which will be payable on September 5, 2019.

The NEC continues to conduct station and GMM visits throughout the system, most recently to PHX, DAL, MDW, HOU, and SEA. The NEC also continues efforts to achieve the best communication practices to reach our membership, and tools are in place for our members to acquire updates via the National website, AMFA App, and other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Thank you for your continued support in this communication campaign.

Reminder: the FAA Hotline reporting system may be utilized to report concerns of aviation safety: https://hotline.faa.gov/. We must realize our grave responsibility as FAA certified airman to exercise our judgement on the airworthiness of aircraft and equipment. We, therefore, pledge unyielding adherence to these precepts for the advancement of public safety of aviation and for the dignity for our craft.

As always, I ask you please be safe and to stay engaged with your union and officers. For more carrier specific updates and further information regarding AMFA and the airline industry, please visit the AMFA National Website at www.amfanational.org. Our most determined efforts will only succeed with your continued support and participation – please stay informed.

Sincerely,

Bret Oestreich
National Director
