Sun Country Airlines Update #2 - Summary of Next Steps for Your Union Representation Election
Mar 23, 2022

YOUR UNION ELECTION – NEXT STEPS
March 23, 2022

On February 25, 2022, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (“AMFA”) filed an application to represent the Sun Country Mechanics and Related Employees together with signed authorization cards from a substantial majority of Sun Country AMTs.  All signed authorizations are treated as confidential by the federal government and are not subject to release.

On March 22, 2022, the National Mediation Board (“NMB”) confirmed that a majority of craft or class has executed cards and authorized a representation election.

Challenges and Objections to the proposed eligibility list are due on April 6, 2022, with any responses to any AMFA Challenges and Objections by Sun Country due on April 13, 2022.

The Election Notice and Sample Ballots will be sent out on March 30, 2022. The actual Ballots will be mailed to employees on April 6, 2022, and the tally will take place at the Board’s offices on May 25, 2022, at 2:00pm ET.

Sun Country Airlines will be required to post the Election Notice/Sample Ballot on Carrier bulletin boards, physical and electronic, and at all locations where other Notices to employees are usually posted. At least one Notice per work location must be posted.

With respect to the ballot, it is NMB practice to list the applicant (AMFA), the “write-in” option, and the “no representative” option in descending order. Upon receipt of the actual Ballot, the voter should carefully follow the voting instructions and complete the voting Ballot and promptly mail it back to the NMB so that it is received sufficiently in advance by the NMB prior to the tally so that it can counted on the day of the tally.

If the actual Ballot is not received within a reasonable time after the NMB mails them out on April 6, a voter may request a duplicate ballot by contacting the NMB in writing. The request must be signed by the voter requesting the Ballot and mailed in an individual envelope; group requests are not accepted. Requests by telephone, facsimile or electronic mail are not accepted. Requests received less than seven (7) calendar days before the tally will not be honored. The name of any employee requesting duplicate ballot will be confidential. Only NMB agents administer and facilitate the voting materials and process.

If AMFA receives a majority of votes cast upon the conclusion of the tally on May 25, 2022, it will be certified as the representative. The NMB will generally issue a Certification based upon the Report of Election Results the next business day following the count.
