CENTENNIAL, Colo. –January 15, 2025 – The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) proudly announces that the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has officially certified AMFA as the official collective bargaining agent for Jazz Aviation Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) and Related Skilled Groups. This landmark decision continues to mark a significant step forward for craft/trade-specific labor representation for AMEs in Canada, reinforcing AMFA’s commitment to advocating for aviation maintenance skilled professionals across North America.

Following an overwhelming show of support, with nearly 80% of Jazz Aviation AMEs and related professionals signing authorization cards for application on November 29, 2024, AMFA filed for representation with the CIRB. Today, the official announcement underscores the unity and determination of Jazz Aviation’s aircraft maintenance workforce to secure better wages, working conditions, protections, and recognition of their skill sets in the maintenance operation.

“This is a pivotal moment for Jazz’s maintenance professionals,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National President. “As a craft-specific union, AMFA brings extensive experience in negotiating strong industry-changing contracts, innovative work rules, and quality of life improvements. We are excited to welcome this talented group and to stand alongside them as they shape their careers and future through democratic representation.”

AMFA’s expansion into Canada underscores the growing demand for trade-specific union representation that prioritizes the interests of skilled professionals. Oestreich further highlighted the grassroots nature of this group's campaign and attributed the victory to the dedication and persistence of Jazz’s AMEs and Related professionals.

“This uncanny achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of our AMFA organizing committee and the collective resolve of Jazz’s aircraft maintenance team,” Oestreich added. “Together, we are setting new standards for labor representation across the entire aviation industry while all AMEs are joining as one.”

AMFA continues to lead the charge in addressing wage disparities and enhancing labor protections for aircraft maintenance professionals, ensuring their voices are heard both in Canada and the United States.
