The AMFA-Jazz Technical Services Negotiating Committee (the “Committee”) is providing this update to the membership at Jazz Technical Services (JTS). This is the only official source of negotiating communications.

On July 15-17, 2025, representatives from Jazz and AMFA met in Toronto, ON, to engage in their third session of collective agreement negotiations. Negotiations were led by AMFA General Counsel Lee Seham and Jazz VP Employee Relations Kirk Newhook.

Building on the progress made by the Jazz Line Committee during negotiations on July 7-9 in Montreal, the JTS Committee reached a tentative agreement on Article 4 – Scope of the Agreement, Classification and Positions, an article critical to the safe operations of the carrier.[1]

Among other gains, the parties agreed that:

  • An M Crew Chief and a minimum of two additional M classification employees shall be assigned to an aircraft with the corresponding Company type course on their ACA for that aircraft type (except when no M classification work is being performed on that aircraft);
  • The Company will provide specific Crew Chief training to permanent Crew Chiefs before the employee is required to perform Crew Chief duties;
  • A Crew Chief may relinquish his position with 60 days’ notice or earlier if a replacement is found;
  • The Company will achieve a ratio of at least 60% ACA to 40% Non-ACA within each classification within two (2) years of the effective date of the new agreement;
  • The Company will have a minimum of 50% M and E licensed ACA qualified on all aircraft types within two years of the effective date of the new collective agreement;
  • For all employees (pre- and post-DOR) advancement from the Licensed Engineer pay scale to the Certifying Engineer pay scale will be automatic after completing twenty-four (24) months in the Licensed Engineer position, provided that employees who obtain their ACA earlier will be advanced to a Certifying Engineer position when they obtain their ACA.

The TA’d Article 4 also extends formal recognition to the following classifications:

Furnishing Shops Certification Authority (SCA) Technician – Comprises those employees who can perform Furnishing Technician functions, along with the testing and certification of furnishing tasks.

Furnishings Crew Chief Position - In addition to the requirements in accordance with Article 4.03, the Crew Chief must possess a Furnishing Shops Certification Authority (SCA) qualification.

Stay engaged, remain informed, and continue to support the Negotiating Committee, as that support increases the ability to bargain a collective agreement that your hard work deserves. Your AMFA representatives will provide regular updates throughout the negotiating process. Thank you for your support.

Fraternally,

AMFA-JTS Negotiating Committee
