AMFA Welcomes Alaska Airlines Maintenance Controllers

CENTENNIAL, CO – February 16, 2022 –The National Mediation Board (NMB) officially announced the Board’s decision today that no vote will be required and the Maintenance Control workgroup at Alaska Airlines will be accreted into mechanics and related class and craft, and  the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association AMFA will be their exclusive collective bargaining agent.

This decision came after a long and unconventional process lasting nearly two years. AMFA filed with the NMB on their behalf on July 14, 2020, and the NMB subsequent investigation regarding the accretion of their work group at Alaska Airlines followed. Nearly 80% of this workgroup signed authorization for representation cards requesting AMFA to file for accretion on behalf of the Alaska Maintenance Controllers.

“We applaud these grassroots organizing efforts and are honored the Maintenance Controllers are placing their confidence and trust in AMFA. We were humbled that these skilled, professional workers recognized and sought the value in our representation for improving their futures,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National President. “Respectfully, we want to thank them for their unwavering patience in this long government process and we’re elated to be receiving the great news today.”

“One of AMFA’s objectives is to elevate the standards and increase recognition of AMTs across the industry. With that in mind, AMFA’s leaders are excited to work with our newest Maintenance Controllers bargaining unit,” said Oestreich. “I expect that we will be meeting with them and the company very soon to discuss the most pressing issues and outline how we intend to move forward as their representative.”
