AMFA Requests Continued Negotiations After Receiving Inadequate Wage Proposal From L3 Harris
Sep 26, 2024

September 25, 2024

Dear AMFA-L3 Member:

On September 20, 2024, AMFA L3 Airline Representative Sean Askin and Region II Director Will Abbott met with L3 representatives to discuss the terms of the Company’s proposed memorandum of agreement (MOA) on wages. During the meeting, the Company sought to impose take-it-or-leave-it offers that are wholly inconsistent with its stated goal of increased partnership. L3 is on a perilous path, risking the short and long-term viability of its maintenance operations in an attempt to protect its padded margins.

The Company’s wage proposal provides the following wage increases for each AMFA-represented position: AME – 16.67%; Aircraft Technician 16.67%; OSS – 11.80%. In discussions, L3 has indicated that it received funds for the wage increase as early as July 2024 and that those funds are owed to employees.

AMFA has explained that the increases are inadequate because they are: 1) below industry standards, 2) below rates that L3 employees receive for the exact same work performed at other bases, and 3) below rates that management expressly promised to employees in recent months.

Critically, the Company’s proposed rates are insufficient to attract and retain employees at its Trenton base.  The base has lost at least half of its maintenance employees in the last two years.  AMFA believes that current staffing levels and the proposed wage rates jeopardize the Company’s ability to fulfill its crucial obligations to the Department of National Defense.

L3 refuses to entertain or even counter AMFA’s proposals for industry-standard wages. The Union’s concerns have fallen on deaf ears.

AMFA rejects this approach to bargaining and the inadequate wage proposals contained in the Company’s MOA.  It remains committed to finding a negotiated solution.  To that end, AMFA has offered to continue to meet with the Company on these issues.

Stay engaged with your Union officers and watch what the Company does instead of what it says.  Remain informed and support your AMFA representatives, as that support increases the ability to obtain the wages your hard work deserves. Your representatives will provide regular updates on negotiations with the Company. Thank you for your support.

Fraternally,

AMFA-L3 Negotiating Committee
