Dear AMFA Members:
The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is proud to announce a historic milestone for AMFA and the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) and related skilled professionals across Canada. We have initiated the process of establishing the first AMFA Local in Canada, marking the Association’s activation of Region IV. This significant step forward strengthens representation, advocacy, and recognition for our profession across North America.
Our goal is to officially charter the Local by the summer of 2025, and we remain committed to engaging members, building a strong foundation, and ensuring a successful launch. To lead this initiative, we have formed an Interim Local Executive Council comprised of dedicated members who will be instrumental in laying the foundation and guiding the operational framework necessary for a strong and sustainable Local.
The establishment of this Local is a momentous occasion for all AMEs in Canada, reflecting a collective effort to elevate industry standards, improve working conditions, and amplify our voices. This Local will provide its members with a stronger platform to advocate for professional growth, fair representation, and the advancement of our trade.
A major labor movement is underway, driven by the growing demand for a craft/trade-specific union dedicated exclusively to skilled aircraft maintenance professionals. AMFA continues to lead this movement, experiencing unprecedented growth with the recent additions of L3 Harris, WestJet, Calm Air, Jazz, and JTS in the past 24 months. This is a pivotal time for our industry, and the membership involvement will help shape the foundation of an organization that will advocate for and support AMEs for generations to come.
We encourage all AMTs/AMEs and industry professionals to stay engaged, support this initiative, and take an active role in this transformative journey. In the coming months, we will share further details on upcoming meetings, developments, elections, referenda, and other opportunities to contribute will be shared in the coming months.
Together, we are making history—raising the standards, strengthening our profession, and building a better future for AMTs/AMEs across North America.
