All Gave Some, Some Gave All,
Remember Those Who Served

By Louie Key, National Director

Many of our AMFA members are veterans and I have great respect for those who serve. Their service to our country is selfless and honorable.

That is why, as an Alaska Airlines employee, I am particularly proud of the strides our company has made in honoring our fallen soldiers. The “Fallen Soldiers” program, which was started by a group of 14 Alaska aircraft technicians at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, follows very specific protocols for handling the remains of deceased military members.

Many of those involved in creating the program were veterans themselves and, noticed violations of military protocol when remains were being transported, decided we could do better for our fallen soldiers. The program, which now has an operations manual and a short training video for technicians and volunteers to review to ensure all policies and procedures are followed, has been so successful that it spread beyond Seattle.
Working on their own time, the technicians completely redesigned the way the airline handled the remains of fallen soldiers. They drafted a manual detailing how to properly load and unload the soldier’s remains, as well has how to treat those traveling with the remains.

The group of technicians who created this program, and those that volunteer when a soldier’s remains are being transported, do so out of respect for the sacrifices that our military service men and women make.

May is Military Appreciation month and throughout the month, parades and celebrations are held around the country to honor our soldiers. Take time if you can to attend a local event and honor all soldiers. All gave some, some gave all, remember those who served.
