2016 AMFA Convention

Last week, AMFA accomplished our Convention, which is held every four years.  Its primary purpose is to have your locally elected Delegates debate member-submitted proposed amendments to the Constitution. The Convention is also the event where National officer candidates for the 2016 election are named by each local.

The function officially started on Monday in New Orleans, LA with an opening report by the National Director.  We then had two guest speakers talk to the Delegates: Dr. Bill Johnson of the FAA, and Mr. Keith Pemrick of Commonwealth Strategic Partners, AMFA's lobbying firm.

We came back from lunch on Monday and began the business of debating proposals and then voting on whether or not to approve them.  This happened over the next couple of days.  On Tuesday, Mr. Tim Cullen, AEI Secretary of the Americas and Local 14 President, gave us an AEI update and presentation of their upcoming video, and then we were back to the business of addressing proposed amendments.

Those proposed amendments that were approved by the Delegates are brought forth to the entire AMFA membership for a final vote.  By the end of the Convention, the Delegates had addressed almost 70 proposals and approved 16 proposed amendments, which you will have the final authority to approve or deny.  This vote should begin in the next 60 days, so pay attention to your mailbox at home.

The locals then submitted the names of their nominees for the upcoming National officer election, where the entire NEC is being elected for four year terms.  We are currently preparing the Willingness-To-Serve Forms for the nominees with the election starting at the beginning of July and running through the beginning of August.
The Convention ended with a closing report from the Rules Committee and the National Director.

We'd like to thank all of the Delegates, Alternate Delegates, Rules Committee, staff, legal, parliamentarian, and guest speakers who attended and helped make this Convention a success!  We look forward to the next Convention in 2020 to be held in Las Vegas, NV during the first week of May.  Please join in the democratic process by voting in the upcoming elections.
