The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is a craft oriented, independent aviation union created in 1962. AMFA's mission is to raise the standards and increase the recognition of aircraft technician and related class and craft for the protection of the profession. AMFA is committed to elevating the professional standing of aviation maintenance technicians and to achieving continued improvements in wages, benefits, and working conditions of the skilled craftsmen and women it represents. AMFA's commitment to the public is through ceaseless vigilance to ensure the safety of the air transport industry.

AMFA represents Mechanics and Related nationwide at Alaska Airlines, Mesaba Airlines, and Southwest Airlines.

On May 4, 2009, the US Supreme Court denied the petition for review brought by former Alaska Airlines mechanic Bernard Mackay, ending eight years of litigation against AMFA, and finally putting to rest the claims that were made on Mackay’s behalf by his attorneys at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, that he was “conscripted” into union membership, an argument that was never accepted by any of the courts that heard the case.
