The AMFA-SCA Negotiating Committee (“Committee”) is providing this update to the membership at Sun Country Airlines (“Sun Country”). This is the only official source of negotiating communications by the Committee.
The Parties met in person in Chicago on August 19-21, for another mediated bargaining session.
In the previous session, the Mediator tasked each Party to arrive prepared for discussions on:
- Article 2 – Scope; and
- Group Insurance Plans (i.e., their analysis of the Blue and Orange insurance plans)
On Days 1 and 2, the Parties engaged in off-the-record discussions with the Mediator on Scope. Among other issues related to Article 2, the Parties discussed protected work in MSP and other stations, job protections, and certain rights of the Company. The Parties made progress on Article 2 through these off-the-record discussions, and we are hopeful that the major issues related to Article 2 - Scope could be agreed to in the next session.
With respect to Group Insurances (e.g., Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD), AMFA consulted with an insurance expert to evaluate the plans Sun Country offers (both Blue and Orange) and to determine what the expected costs would be to you and to the Company if the Company was to adopt AMFA’s proposal regarding Group Insurance. You may recall from prior updates that AMFA has proposed that the Company re-adopt the Blue Plan for the Technicians and Related employees. We estimate that if AMFA’s proposal of the Blue Plan for you were to be accepted, the Company’s total Medical Insurance would only increase marginally (i.e., approximately 1% per year). We view this as a small cost the Company should be willing to assume to align you with the other labor groups on the property that currently have access to the Blue Plan – a plan you previously had access to.
After further consultation with AMFA’s health plan expert, your Committee engaged in off-the-record discussions with the Company about the Group Insurance plans. Work will continue in this area during the next session.
Your AMFA Committee greatly appreciates the continued messages in support of our work at the table on your behalf. We also appreciate the outreach regarding your willingness to serve on the Strike Preparation Committee (SPC) and will continue to update you on the progress and planning of the SPC.
If you have any questions related to negotiations, please reach out to your ALR, Tony Christner. The next session is scheduled for October 1-3 in Chicago.
Remember - stay engaged, remain informed, and continue to support the Negotiating Committee. Our solidarity will produce a CBA that your hard work has earned.
Fraternally,
Your AMFA-SCA Negotiating Committee
