MISSISSAUGA, ON. – November 10, 2025 – On behalf of AMFA Local 605 (Canada), National President Bret Oestreich issued the following statement in response to the government of Canada’s Budget 2025 presented in the House of Commons on Tuesday, November 4, 2025:

AMFA National and our Canadian Local 605 were very pleased to see two particular commitments in the Federal Budget released last week:

First, is the government’s commitment to “Collective Bargaining in Good Faith” with the public service unions as contract negotiations resume this year. In the context of back-to-work orders and the proactive use of the notwithstanding clause to strip working people of their right to strike, AMFA is very pleased to see this renewed commitment. Canadians have a Charter right to strike, and governments of all stripes should be aggressively protecting this right, not circumventing it.

Second, is the government’s clear commitment to using and preferring union jobs when it comes to billions of dollars of new investments in infrastructure and housing spending. This is critical to the training of new generations of skilled workers in Canada who will continue to enjoy the support and working conditions that come from union work.

AMFA stands ready to work with any government that shares the values of our members and that respects the rights of working Canadians.
