Dear AMFA-Represented Members at Alaska Airlines & Future Hawaiian Members:
Yesterday, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines submitted a “list of potential eligible voters” to the NMB as requested, for a possible future election to determine union representation for the Mechanics and Related Employees of the Combined Carrier. The list consists of 1990 named individuals employed in the job classifications referenced in the respective Mechanics and Related agreements at Alaska and Hawaiian.
The Combined Carrier submission states that it “takes no position as to whether the job classifications covered by the existing collective bargaining agreements are appropriately within the mechanics and related craft or class.” All questions of eligibility will eventually be determined by the National Mediation Board (NMB). AMFA Leadership will be auditing the supplied lists in the coming weeks and will file the necessary objections to any names who do not currently work at either carrier, deemed to be ineligible or out of the craft and class for Aircraft Technicians. AMFA has reached out to the NMB for a deadline for any objection submissions. Currently, there is NO deadline set by the NMB for the objection submissions. AMFA prides itself in working diligently and thoroughly and will audit these lists in the same manor. The list number of 1990 potential voters confirms that AMFA has submitted the requisite showing of interest to the NMB and, therefore, will be on any future union election ballot.
The IAM has until August 29 to submit its showing of interest to the NMB.
AMFA is committed to providing its membership with accurate and updated information as the information is released. Continue to reach out to Jeff Heard (L32 ALR) or Brandon Statfield (L14 ALR)
with any questions or clarification needs. If there is a representation election, the NMB will be utilizing paper/ mail in ballots, and the membership will have approximately 8-10 weeks to submit their ballots. There has been NO decision rendered by the NMB at this time regarding a representation election.
Sincerely,
Brandon Statfield, AMFA Local 14 ALR
Jeff Heard, AMFA Local 32 ALR
