MISSISSAUGA, ON – December 26, 2025 – The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) announced today that its members at Calm Air International LP have ratified a new three-year collective agreement. More than 92% of eligible members participated in the vote, with 81% voting in favor.

“This agreement represents another strong step forward for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and aviation support workers in Canada,” said AMFA National President Bret Oestreich. “It strengthens scheduling and work rules, improves standards for traveling employees, and—most importantly—protects our members’ scope of work. Calm Air is a vital operator in the North, and this contract establishes its deployed AMEs among the best paid in Canada while positioning the company as a competitive industry leader.”

Key highlights of the agreement include:

  • Comprehensive reorganization and clarification of contract language
  • Strong work-jurisdiction protections against subcontracting and job loss
  • Immediate top-of-scale wage increase of more than 18%, plus an additional 3% increase effective January 1, 2026
  • Improved per diem rates, out-of-base premiums, allowances, and travel accommodation standards
  • Clearly defined work rules for scheduling, overtime, charter, and AOG assignments
  • Increased uniform allotments and creation of a uniform committee
  • Enhanced union recognition through a more collaborative process
  • Retroactive pay covering the past six months

“The success of these negotiations reflects the dedication of the negotiating committee and the engagement of the membership,” Oestreich added. “Calm Air AMEs and Ground Support Equipment Mechanics work in extreme conditions across the North to maintain a critical lifeline between Winnipeg and the Arctic Circle. AMFA remains committed to delivering industry-leading agreements that raise standards, protect our members’ work, and improve quality of life—regardless of bargaining unit size.”
