Dear AMFA-Sun Country Members:
A merger agreement was announced between Allegiant Travel Co. (the parent company of Allegiant Air) and Sun Country Holdings, Inc. We wanted to take this opportunity to provide information as it relates to AMFA members at Sun Country.
It is important to note that the merger announcement will not affect or delay the finalization of our Tentative Agreement (TA) with Sun Country, nor will it affect the information roadshow or ratification process that will follow completion of the TA. AMFA Legal has completed construction of the TA documents, which are currently being reviewed by Sun Country prior to finalization. Once completed, the AMFA NEC will review for approval, and thereafter it will be sent to the membership for a minimum of 14 days to review prior to the commencement of the roadshow process.
If the TA is ratified, our first collective bargaining agreement (CBA) will be in place and establish the status quo for the Mechanics and Related Employees at Sun Country moving forward. If ratified, this CBA remains in full force and effect unless and until certain legal procedures have been met to combine the two groups, including seniority and, ultimately, a single CBA. As you review the TA, it will be important to pay close attention to Article 3 – Status of Agreement, which contains provisions and protections related to a merger process.
This merger is currently in its infancy. As explained by Allegiant and Sun Country, the transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026 and will need to clear regulatory hurdles, including approval from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and application for and receipt of a single operating certificate.
As you may know, the Allegiant Mechanics and Related group is currently represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Therefore, there will also be processes further along in the future that will need to occur as it relates to seniority integration, National Mediation Board (NMB) determination of single carrier status and which union will represent the combined group. Prior to this merger announcement, Allegiant Mechanics were sending AMFA authorization cards seeking a change in representation.
AMFA will continue to collect these authorization cards to demonstrate a showing of interest to support an NMB vote that would allow AMFA to represent the combined group. We will provide more information on this process as we move forward and during the upcoming TA information roadshows.
If you have any questions regarding the TA, information roadshow, ratification process, or the merger, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. AMFA will continue to update you on the TA and any merger-related information so that you are fully informed as this process unfolds.
On behalf of the AMFA-SCA Negotiating Committee,
