AMFA Files for Certification to Represent Ornge Air AMEs
Jan 14, 2026

January 14, 2026

Dear Ornge Air AMEs:

My name is Bret Oestreich, National President of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). With 35 years in the aviation industry as an FAA-licensed A&P Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT), I understand firsthand the responsibility and pride that come with this profession. I want to extend my sincere appreciation for the vital role you play in aviation safety and daily operations. Your knowledge, skill, and integrity are fundamental to ensuring the public’s health and safety and to the success of aviation maintenance worldwide. The dedication and professionalism you bring to your craft/trade reflect the values we share and truly deserve recognition.

We’re excited to let you know that we filed for certification as the bargaining agent for you and your colleagues at Ornge with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on January 12, 2026.

AMFA is proud to represent highly skilled aviation professionals like you throughout North America. In Canada, our recent accomplishments include organizing and certification at L3 Harris MAS, WestJet Airlines, Calm Air, Jazz Line, and Jazz Technical Services, along with the successful negotiation and ratification of new collective bargaining agreements for the AMFA members at these employers. As you are aware, AMFA continues to play a significant role in expanding the craft/trade-specific labour movement across Canada.

AMFA’s strength lies in its focus on representing only one craft and class of aviation professionals, which eliminates competing interests and prioritizes our members' needs. Unlike other unions with centralized hierarchies, AMFA’s Constitution empowers its members, ensuring their voices guide our direction.

We understand the challenges and misinformation that often arise during organizing efforts. Your determination and involvement are driving meaningful change and reinforcing your value as skilled professionals. Standing together with AMFA strengthens our ability to ensure Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) receive the respect, recognition, and representation they have earned.

We stand in solidarity and thank you for your support in advancing this movement to bring AMFA’s independent, craft/trade-specific representation to Ornge Air. Working together, we can help build a stronger, more secure future for AMEs in Canada and across the aviation industry.

Sincerely,

Bret Oestreich
National President
