The AMFA-Jazz Technical Services Negotiating Committee (the “Committee”) is providing this update to the membership at Jazz Technical Services (JTS). This is the only official source of negotiating communications.
On September 9-11, 2025, representatives from JTS and AMFA met in Halifax to engage in their fifth session of collective agreement negotiations. Negotiations were led by AMFA Region IV Director Ian Evershed and AMFA General Counsel Lee Seham for the Union, and Jazz VP Employee Relations Kirk Newhook for the Company. AMFA-Jazz negotiating representatives Justin Lang and Michael Emery also attended these sessions, as well as more than fifteen Halifax-based observers.
Negotiations focused on the full spectrum of economic items, including wages, benefits, premiums, per diems, and tool allowances. Both parties are employing economic analysts to “cost out” the value of their respective proposals.
During the prior negotiating session, the gap in the total dollar value of the parties’ respective financial proposals stood at a daunting $14 million. By the end of the session in Halifax, the gap had closed to less than half of this figure, with each side making comparable moves toward a compromise.
It continues to be AMFA’s position that any distinction in the economic value of skilled Tech Ops employees at Tier 1 and Tier 2 is meaningless in view of the shortage of skilled workers. Put another way, in order to retain current Tech Ops employees, and recruit new hires, JTS/Jazz needs to offer compensation comparable to that offered by Air Canada.
We believe meaningful progress was achieved during this negotiating session; however, substantial work lies ahead both with respect to economic issues and Article 2 scope provisions.
The critical nature of outstanding scope issues cannot be overstated. As AMFA has advised the Company: wage rates may prove illusory unless our jobs are secure.
Negotiations are scheduled to continue in Calgary on September 23-25, and Vancouver October 15-17, with both AMFA-JTS and AMFA-Jazz representatives attending. As always, we encourage our members to attend as observers.
Stay engaged, remain informed, and continue to support the Negotiating Committee, as that support increases the ability to bargain a collective agreement that your hard work deserves. Your AMFA representatives will provide regular updates throughout the negotiating process. Thank you for your support.
Fraternally,
AMFA-JTS Negotiating Committee
