AMFA Continues to Fight for Your Rights – Representation Election Update
Oct 16, 2025

AMFA Members and Future Members:

Despite the current government shutdown continuing to affect the National Mediation Board (NMB), AMFA is not slowing down. We continue to fight every day for the rights of all current and future AMFA Members who deserve nothing less than fair representation and the ability to choose a Union that truly advocates for them.

In regard to the upcoming representation election for employees of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Air, AMFA maintains its commitment to keeping you informed every step of the way. We do not yet have a date for the vote, but we do have several key updates in the meantime:

IAM Tries to Silence Your Voice. AMFA Pushes Back.

AMFA has formally opposed the IAM's attempt to strip 22 Alaska Airlines employees of their right to vote in the upcoming representation election. The IAM's effort rests entirely on unsupported claims and hearsay from individuals with no operational knowledge of Alaska Airlines. Meanwhile, AMFA’s position is supported by facts, our Collective Bargaining Agreement and also case law—all of which was furnished to the NMB by the October 15 deadline for challenges to the seniority lists. Read the detailed information provided by AMFA to the NMB.

Bottom line: AMFA won’t stand by while the IAM tries to silence AMTs—including those with active grievances and those temporarily promoted but still within our craft and class. AMFA has filed detailed evidence showing these individuals deserve a voice in the election.

AMFA will continue to ensure no technician is wrongly excluded from this representation process. Your voices must be heard in this most critical vote in your career.

Disruption on Hangar Floor: IAM Oversteps Again

AMFA has received multiple reports of IAM’s electioneering disrupting aircraft maintenance work, including creating direct interference during AMTs’ safety-sensitive operations. Technicians report being pressured and distracted by IAM representatives while addressing critical FAA-regulated maintenance tasks.

Let us be clear: These actions not only present violations of “laboratory conditions” (as required by the Railway Labor Act), but they also endanger the integrity of your work environment. AMFA is taking these issues seriously and is fully prepared to include them in post-election challenges and reports to the FAA if necessary.

AMFA Members Receive Raises

While others posture, AMFA delivers.

On October 17, AMFA-represented AMTs at Alaska Airlines began receiving a wage increase, the direct result of AMFA’s innovative contract language that demands an annual wage review with Alaska Airlines. Our agreement ensures AMTs’ pay stays at the top of the industry and on par with other unionized workgroups at the airline.

This is not just about dollars, but about contract language that ensures proactive protection against wage stagnation. (In case you are wondering, this protection is missing entirely from the IAM-Hawaiian contract.)

AMFA Works Hard for Members

Even as the NMB is slowed by a government shutdown, AMFA is pressing forward without pause. We are defending your rights, exposing bad-faith tactics and securing real, tangible gains for our Members.

In Solidarity,
AMFA National
