From Bret Oestreich, National President, Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA)
The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) applauds the bipartisan leadership of Chairman Ted Cruz and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell for their work in advancing the ROTOR Act. This bipartisan agreement represents a significant step forward in enhancing aviation safety and strengthening regulatory oversight to ensure the continued protection of the flying public.
As the only craft union representing skilled aircraft maintenance technicians working on fixed-wing aircraft throughout the United States, AMFA recognizes the critical role that clear, enforceable safety standards play in maintaining the highest levels of operational safety. The ROTOR Act advances important measures to address safety risks in congested and complex airspace, ensuring that regulators have the tools needed to respond effectively to evolving operational environments.
We strongly support the Act’s focus on requiring ADS-B In/Out technology in critical aerospace areas. This technology provides real-time position information to both air traffic controllers and flight crews, greatly improving situational awareness, reducing the risk of mid-air collisions, and enhancing the overall efficiency and safety of the National Airspace System.
AMFA commends Chairman Cruz and Ranking Member Cantwell for demonstrating that bipartisan cooperation can deliver real safety improvements. Their leadership underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding the traveling public and the professionals who keep our aviation system operating safely every day.
AMFA looks forward to supporting the implementation of this important legislation and working with lawmakers, regulators, and industry partners to uphold the highest standards of aviation safety.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Cush
