Toolbox Talk: Grace

It’s easy to get locked in on safety and unintentionally overlook Professional Standards—but the reality is, you can’t separate the two. Safety is built on doing the basics right every single time: following procedures, using approved data, and staying disciplined, even when no one’s watching.

Professional Standards is where the human element comes into play. We work alongside AMEs and AMTs with different backgrounds, experiences, and work styles—along with challenges we may never see, like dyslexia or PTSD. What feels routine to one person might be a real hurdle for another, and that shapes how we interact on the job.

Then there are the moments when personalities clash. Most conflicts start as simple misunderstandings, but if they’re not handled properly, they can escalate quickly and lead to discipline. Professional Standards exists to step in early— helping resolve issues fairly, respectfully, and before they turn into something bigger or before they get to HR.

At the end of the day, we don’t always know what someone else is dealing with. So, when you see a coworker struggling, take a moment before reacting. Choose to show a little GRACE. Strong standards aren’t just about technical skill—they’re about respect, communication, and having each other’s backs.

Every Local has a Professional Standards Committee Chairman or Co-Chair ready to help if you need guidance. They can connect you with someone who can assist:
