December 10, 2020
Dear American Airlines Mechanics & Related Employees:
We wanted to reach out and give you an update following AMFA’s filing for a representation dispute on your behalf with the National Mediation Board (NMB) for the American Airlines (AA) Mechanic and Related workgroups. As previously outlined in our last update, “We have filed with the NMB” dated November 13, 2020. We have been assigned both an NMB Case No. R-7557 and NMB Investigator Josie G.M. Bautista. On Friday December 4, 2020, American Airlines’ Vice President of Labor Relations, Lucrecia D. Guia, provided to the NMB a list containing 13,213 potential eligible voters and signature samples for each employee on their list, and Investigator Bautista acknowledged this submission of American Airlines Inc Potential Eligible Voters list in correspondence on December 8, 2020.
Over the next several months, Investigator Bautista will conduct an investigation validating the authenticity of your overwhelming number of signed authorization cards by comparison with the Company’s signature samples provided to the NMB. Investigator Bautista will also assess the sufficiency of the number of authorization card signers of the Mechanics and Related Employees Craft or Class to ensure that a majority of the group sought an election for union representation. Finally, when a determination of a majority of interest occurs, Investigator Bautista will schedule the opportunity for the parties to make challenges and objections to the proposed eligibility list submitted by AA. After that, we expect the Investigator will schedule the election and distribute voting instructions to eligible voters to determine the representative of the Mechanics and Related Employees at AA, which will be conducted by telephone and on the internet.
Again, we would like to express our utmost appreciation to all who have participated in the grassroots efforts in collecting Authorization for Representation cards from the professionals that fall under the Craft or Class of Mechanics and Related Employees in your Title I, Title II, and Title IV workgroups: Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMT), Maintenance Controllers Technicians (MCT), Overhaul Support Mechanic (OSM), GSEAutomotive Technicians (GSE), Aircraft Machinists, Aircraft Welders, Facility Maintenance Technicians (FMT) Aircraft Cleaners, Aircraft Platers, Parts Washers, Aircraft Planners, QA Auditors, and Tech Doc Specialists. We encourage you to stay informed with the facts and continue your vigilance against the propaganda and smear campaign attempts by the IAM/TWU Association.
We expect that the IAM/TWU Association will make every attempt to prevent this election by any means necessary, including inflating the eligibility list submitted by the Company. Efforts and attempts to prevent you from exercising your lawful and democratic right to vote in your collective and personal best interests will not succeed. Understand, that we have filed more than enough signed Authorization for Representation cards with the NMB to cover the Company’s submitted number of 13,213 potential eligible voters.
Additionally, we assure you that we will only present fact-based information about AMFA and our track record, so you can make an informed decision prior to your vote with the NMB.
If you need more information, or you have a pressing matter, please call our offices at 303-752-2632.
In Solidarity,
Gene Painter
