AMFA NMB Filing Update

Subject: AMFA NMB Filing Update

Dear AMFA-Represented Members at Alaska Airlines:

AMFA has received confirmation from the NMB, that the IAM has submitted their response to the position statement requested for the single carrier representation. The IAM submitted their response on July 8th, 2025 and did not object or disagree that there is a merging of carriers between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. This is the same position that AMFA made during the initial filing for single carrier representation on May 12, 2025.

The NMB is now tasked with determining if there is a merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines and that there are collective bargaining groups at both carriers that are in the same “craft & class” as aircraft technicians. The NMB has already ruled in favor of the merger with other unionized work groups (Dispatchers, Flight Attendants & Pilots). The opinion of AMFA and its legal team is that the NMB will confirm or approve of the merger between Alaska and Hawaiian and will then request the official represented membership lists from both carriers. Once the NMB receives these lists from the carriers, the NMB will grant both AMFA & the IAM the opportunity to review the list submitted by the two carriers will have the ability to file objections as needed. The NMB will set deadlines for a review period of the seniority lists, once the unions receive the submitted lists. After the unions have an opportunity to review the lists, the NMB will decide if the IAM has sufficient showing of support and who will be represented on the Singe Carrier Union representation election ballot.

AMFA anticipates the NMB will make a single carrier determination within 3-4 weeks. Upon this ruling, there will be dates set by the NMB for the Unions review of the submitted lists by the carriers and dates for an impending election. By our estimates, the IAM still needs to acquire roughly 75 cards to submit to the NMB to show that there is enough showing of support to warrant their name on an election ballot. AMFA will automatically be on the ballot, due to the size of current membership. We encourage all members to show their support for AMFA by continuing the solidarity amongst our membership, reaching out to the ALR’s and merger committee with questions/comments and concerns regarding the merger and continuing to get engaged at your respective local meetings and event’s. Additional updates will be forthcoming once we receive the NMB decision.

Sincerely,

Brandon Statfield, AMFA Local 14 ALR
Jeff Heard, AMFA Local 32 ALR
