February 18, 2025 -- The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) is proud to announce a historic milestone for AMFA and the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) and related skilled professionals across Canada. We have initiated the process of establishing the first AMFA Local in Canada, marking the Association’s activation of Region IV.
December 31, 2024 -- We accomplished a lot in 2024 and made significant strides in "raising the bar" in the aviation industry. Our collective efforts have led to increased recognition for your craft, enhanced job security, and industry-leading wages and benefits. We successfully negotiated contracts that recognized Aircraft Maintenance Technicians/Engineers (AMTs/AMEs) as vital skilled professionals across North America. Looking ahead, we have set ambitious goals for 2025.
December 19, 2024 -- We are aware that, given the Company’s bankruptcy filing and recent notice of station closures, there is considerable uncertainty and a significant level of dismay within our workgroup. Your AMFA Negotiating Committee wanted to share this update to provide you with additional information as well as context regarding Spirit’s recent actions.
December 11, 2024 -- The parties met December 3-5 at the NMB offices in Washington, DC. This was our seventh session in NMB mediation. On Day 1, the parties started with a discussion regarding the current landscape of negotiations, which included the Company explaining that Bobby Purzitza will be retiring and replaced at the bargaining table with Director of Outstation Maintenance, Scott Bjergo.
December 11, 2024 – AMFA is happy to announce the CIRB authorized and ordered a representation vote for the Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs) and related trade groups from Calm Air, who approached AMFA seeking representation in June this year. Yesterday, the CIRB officially certified AMFA as the bargaining agent at Calm Air of the skilled unit.
December 10, 2024 -- On November 29, 2024, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) filed applications for certification at Jazz Technical Services and Jazz Aviation, LP. The applications cover both the line and heavy maintenance employees at the airline. Jazz is the third largest Canadian carrier by fleet size, behind Air Canada and WestJet, respectively.
AMFA was certified at Calm Air on November 29, 2024, and the Association currently represents approximately 78 aircraft maintenance engineers and skilled trade groups.
