AMFA’s mission is to increase recognition of aircraft maintenance technicians/engineers (AMT/AME) and related and skilled trade groups and to promote and protect the interests of our profession. We accomplish this goal by advocating for our craft/trade before legislators and other government entities in both the United States and Canada, including the House of Representatives, Senate, and other regulatory committees in the US and Parliament, the House of commons, and Senate in Canada. AMFA is actively engaged in the issues affecting our profession, including job security,  outsourcing, safety and security, and workforce development amongst others.

We believe that government affairs consist of three pillars: legislative, regulatory, and political. On the legislative front, AMFA is both monitoring legislation that may have an impact on our profession, and working with government to introduce craft/trade-friendly legislation.  On the regulatory front, and as the only craft/trade-specific labor group in North America representing aircraft technicians/engineers, AMFA strives to ensure our voice is heard at the highest levels of government and industry. We accomplish this by participating in the advisory and rulemaking committees, where stakeholders gather to discuss and advise regulators on the most important issues facing aviation.
