National Director's April 2015 Update
May 04, 2015

April 30, 2015

Dear Members:

As a follow up to last month’s notice that we would have to find a new lobbying firm in Washington D.C. I would like to announce that we were successful in our search and have retained the firm of Commonwealth Strategic Partners, LLC. Information about the firm can be found on their website at (http://commonwealthstrategic.com/ ). We have begun the process of briefing them on our legislative initiatives and are looking forward to being very busy with our highest legislative priority: the FAA Reauthorization Bill. The Bill has many components that are relevant to our members and is due to come before Congress again this year. We are also focusing on other legislative issues such as greater recognition of our S.I.D.A. badges at multiple airports.

On April 14-16, 2015 Aaron Hansen, Assistant National Director and I attended the 2015 Aerospace Maintenance Competition in Miami, Florida. The maintenance competition was part of Aviation Week Magazine’s MRO Americas convention. AMFA was one of the maintenance competition event sponsors, and we also presented a $2,500 scholarship to our 2015 selectee, Mr. Kyle Johnson, an A&P student attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. We were very proud of Team Southwest Airlines and Team Alaska Airlines, both AMFA represented carriers, who won 1st and 3rd place respectively in the Commercial Aviation Category. Congratulations go to all of the team members; their dedication and hard work really paid off!

On April 21, 2015, the Southwest Airlines (SWA) Facility Maintenance Technician (FMT) negotiations continued, and on April 22, 2015, the Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) negotiations also continued in Dallas, Texas. The negotiation updates for both groups have been posted to the AMFA National Website. The next scheduled session for the AMTs is June 2, 2015, and the FMTs is June 3 – 4, 2015. At Alaska Airlines, submitted contract proposals for the upcoming negotiations are being combined at each local. Once that process is complete each local will hold a special meeting for the members to endorse the proposals they support and want taken forward. Once that has been accomplished there will be a system-wide survey of the endorsed proposals for the members to rank in order of priority.

For more carrier specific updates and further information regarding AMFA and the airline industry, please visit the AMFA National Website at www.AMFANational.org. Our most determined efforts will only succeed with your continued support and participation – please stay informed.

Sincerely,

Louie Key
National Director
