AMFA WELCOMES HORIZON AIR MECHANICS AND RELATED EMPLOYEES
Centennial, CO – August 22, 2019 – The National Mediation Board (NMB) officially announced today that the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) at Horizon Air voted to elect the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), to be their exclusive collective bargaining agent.
Earlier this summer, AMTs at Horizon Air brought signed authorization cards from nearly 60% of its workgroup to AMFA asking that they file for an election on behalf of the mechanics and related employees.
“We were surprised and humbled that these skilled workers saw the value in our representation,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National Director. “Respectfully, we didn’t seek out this group, they started a grassroots campaign, and today we are honored and privileged to represent them.”
Prior to the election, the employees at Horizon Air were represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) Airline Division.
Horizon Air Industries is a regional airline based in SeaTac, WA and is the sister carrier of Alaska Airlines whose more than 720 AMTs are also represented by AMFA.
“One of AMFA’s objectives is to elevate the standards and increase recognition of AMTs across the industry. With that in mind, AMFA’s National Executive Council and local leaders are excited to work with our newest bargaining unit,” said Oestreich. “I expect that we will be meeting with them very soon to discuss their most pressing issues and outline how AMFA intends to move forward.”
