March 22, 2022
Dear Sun Country Airlines’ Mechanics and Related Employees:
We are pleased to inform you that on March 22, 2022, National Mediation Board (“NMB”) Investigator Josie G.M. Bautista notified all parties that the NMB has authorized an election by mail in NMB Case No. R-7578 for the Mechanics and Related Employees at Sun Country Airlines, Inc. to have AMFA elected as your representative.
The NMB has directed Sun Country Airlines to prepare mailing labels based upon its proposed eligibility list, which has previously been provided to the NMB, within five calendar days. We will continue to keep you informed as we are made aware of any further NMB scheduling deadlines, including the mailing of ballots and the election tally date at the NMB.
Many of you have expressed concerns with respect to retaliation from Management for signing an AMFA Authorization for Representation card. Following AMFA’s filing, your authorizations are only handled by and disclosed to NMB representatives and are kept strictly confidential, including the names of individuals who have signed authorizations and the number of authorizations submitted. The carrier is not privy to either the number or the percentage of authorizations furnished by AMFA to the NMB.
Under the Railway Labor Act (RLA) 45 U.S.C. §152, Fourth, employees have “the right to organize and bargain collectively through the representatives of their own choosing” and that “[t]he majority of any craft or class of employees shall have the right to determine who shall be the representative of the craft or class . . .”
AMFA looks forward to the opportunity to unify and represent your group. AMFA is a firm believer in keeping transparency with our union members because we respect employee choice. For further updates and information as this election process proceeds, please visit the AMFA at Sun Country Airlines page of the AMFA National website.
In Solidarity,
Bret Oestreich
National President
