Now JetBlue is Knocking at the Door – Sign a Card for a Collective Voice
Apr 07, 2022

April 7, 2022

Dear Spirit Airlines Aircraft Maintenance Technicians:

We’re honored and we want to thank you for placing your confidence in the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). Your grassroots organizing efforts and collection of Authorization for Representation cards in favor of AMFA is still ongoing with favorable interest and results. We have written to you before about the career impacts arising from the merger of two carriers and most of you responded – AMFA now has signed authorization cards from over 50% of the Aviation Maintenance Technicians of Spirit Airlines.  In fact, the number of cards signed by Spirit AMTs would constitute a majority of AMTs at a combined Spirit-Frontier carrier.

Nevertheless, you now have a different suitor knocking at your door – JetBlue.  And in terms of numbers, the JB maintenance workforce exceeds that of Spirit. Now – prior to merger or acquisition – is the time to obtain a unified collective voice.

A seniority integration process is in your future; a process that will impact every aspect of your working life:  access to travel benefits, your shift and days off, the station where you work, and – in the event of furloughs – your job security.

AMFA will provide you a proven negotiating experience, legal staff, and economic experts that are critical for the protection of your career.  The same team will be dedicated to increasing your wages, benefits, and promoting our interests as a craft in Washington.

If you have not signed an authorization card yet, what are you waiting for?  There can be no further delay – AMFA will be filing for a union election with the National Mediation Board this month.

This is your career and livelihood, protect it.

We currently represent AMTs at Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and Southwest Airlines. The AMFA–Southwest Airlines contract sets the standard for pay and benefits in the industry. As you know, a negotiated contract would give you continuity, structure and foundation in applied work rules for you and the company that is consistent across your stations.

About AMFA:

  1. Members elect AND can recall all officers
  2. Members must approve any changes to our constitution or bylaws, including proposed dues increases
  3. Dues rate is the lowest in the industry – two times your base hourly wage
  4. AMFA negotiated for and represents the highest paid AMT groups among commercial passenger carriers
  5. AMFA has won tens of thousands of dollars in outsourcing grievances
  6. AMFA has open contract negotiations where member observers can watch negotiations, holding the company and their union accountable
  7. AMFA maintains a highly trained Accident Investigation Team that works with the NTSB during accident investigations
  8. AMFA has established a Professional Standards Program and trains representatives for these positions.

If you need more information, or you have a pressing matter, please call our National office at 303-752-2632.

Sincerely,

Bret Oestreich
National President
