Southwest Airlines Mechanics to Hold Informational Picket At Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport
More Than 100 Members of AMFA Local 32 To Take Message To Flying Customers on Friday, June 30
PHOENIX, AZ. – June 27, 2017 – Bret Oestreich, National Director of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), released the following statement:
“After almost five years of unproductive negotiations with Southwest Airlines led by CEO Gary Kelly, more than 100 members of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association Local 32 will be conducting an informational picket at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Friday, June 30.
“The reality is this – our mechanics have worked 1,776 days without a new contract or pay raise while Southwest Airlines and its shareholders have enjoyed record profits. Instead of following the standard set by former CEO Herb Kelleher and rewarding the hardworking men and women who built our once proud airline, Gary Kelly wants to outsource our aircraft maintenance work to mechanics that are less skilled than the professionals that have kept Southwest Airlines’ passengers safe and traveling on time for the past 50 years. This would jeopardize our job security and put our flying customers at risk.
“The time is now for Southwest Airlines to honor the dedicated employees who built this airline through shared sacrifices. Those negotiating for our mechanics have done so in good faith following the example set by former CEO Herb Kelleher. We urge Southwest Airlines management to do the same, reward those who are equally responsible for the success of our company and protect the safety and security of our passengers.”
The informational picket will be held at terminal four, level two on the south side of the east end of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport; please see attached map.
