AMFA AND SOUTHWEST AIRLINES REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT FOR AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS

CENTENNIAL, CO – April 3, 2019 – After almost seven years of negotiations, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) and Southwest Airlines (SWA) announced a tentative agreement (TA) on a proposed contract for the airline’s Aircraft Maintenance Technicians.

The TA includes significant pay increases, headcount protections, and job protection provisions.

“The AMTs are major contributors to Southwest Airlines’ efficiency, safety record, reliability, record profits, and overall success. We have been locked in negotiations with Southwest Airlines for 75 sessions, and our members have had their pay frozen at rates from 2012, with no bonuses or increases,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National Director. “As major contributors to the Company’s success, this offer allows Southwest to take care of their loyal employees and customers and ensures flexibility for future growth. Our priority was always to protect our current and future members’ work, and the safety of Southwest’s passengers. Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction in repairing the relationship between our groups, thus emphasizing the importance of taking care of our people.”

“Lastly, I would like to recognize and offer my sincere gratitude to all who were involved in this long negotiation process – from 2012 to the present – for your dedication and tenacity in achieving this TA. Now it’s time for the membership to speak by their vote,” said Oestreich.

The TA will be sent out to the affected membership in the coming weeks for a ratification vote.
