AMFA-SWA MEMBERS RATIFY CONTRACT EXTENSION

CENTENNIAL, CO -- October 12, 2022 -- “Yesterday, AMFA-SWA Aircraft Appearance Technicians voted to ratify a Contract Extension at Southwest Airlines. We believe this industry-leading agreement is warranted after the workforce experienced extensive pressure, sacrifice, and workload to safely clean and disinfect aircrafts for the traveling public during the Covid pandemic. The improvements for this group are justified and provide deserved enhancements for themselves and their families,” said AMFA National President Bret Oestreich.

This dedicated group held the line and showed exceptional professionalism and support during these hard-fought negotiations. The AMFA Negotiating Committee truly appreciates the SWA Appearance Technicians feedback, patience, and participation in the bargaining process to achieve this agreement.  Our priority remains to raise industry standards, increase recognition of our craft, protect our work, and to advocate for industry leading wages and enhanced benefits.

“After a previously negotiated tentative agreement failed, members of the AMFA Negotiating Committee gathered membership feedback and returned to the bargaining table,” said Oestreich.

“This second tentative agreement was ratified by a majority vote of our members. The new wage increases will help compensate for their sacrifices and professional workmanship,” says Oestreich. “With the wage gains and increases in the down years in this contract, Southwest will be able to hire and retain the talented workforce it needs while allowing the company to withstand impending shortages and cultivate growth in the future.”

This newly ratified agreement is an industry-changing agreement with significant pay increases, industry-leading starting pay, and top of scale.
