The AMFA-Southwest Airlines (SWA) FMT Negotiating Committee is providing this update to the Facilities Maintenance Technician (FMT) Membership at Southwest Airlines. This is the only official authorized source of negotiating communications by the Committee.

The Parties held a two-day bargaining session, November 9-10 in Dallas to continue Section 6 bargaining toward a successor collective bargaining agreement (CBA) for the FMT group.

Prior to the session, your Committee requested information from the Company regarding its facilities maintenance “footprint” as well as medical insurance-related data. The Company advised it was assembling the requested data for our review.

The first day commenced with an article-by-article review of the status of negotiations. Following that review, the Company delivered a counterproposal on Article 15 – Wage Rates. After caucusing to discuss, your Committee delivered its own counterproposal on Article 15 – Wage Rates. The Parties made progress toward a tentative agreement on economics and had productive discussions on useful comparators for license pay. During the session, we requested additional data from the Company related to licenses, to which the Company was able to quickly reply, and we analyzed their data to prepare future counterproposals.

The Parties continued their productive work and discussions into day two. The Union and the Company spent time in caucus to formulate possible proposals/counterproposals on the remaining open articles. We remain hopeful a tentative agreement can be reached soon for your review and consideration.

The next negotiation dates are scheduled for January 17-19 at a location to be determined by AMFA.  However, we are hopeful the Parties can continue to make progress electronically in the coming weeks prior to the next scheduled sessions in January. We will update you on the January dates when the Parties finalize the location.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to your ALR with any questions. Stay engaged. Remain informed. And, continue with your support for the Committee, which increases its ability to bargain a CBA your hard work deserves.
