MISSISSAUGA, ON – February 23, 2026 – A third L3 Harris employee has now received discipline related to the “Coffeemaker Incident,” just days after the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association filed unfair labour practice (ULP) charges against the Company. The Union’s original charges allege that L3 retaliated against AMFA Airline Representative, Sean Askin for raising concerns with the Company’s maintenance procedures and for his status as a union officer.

As evidence of retaliation, AMFA’s charge addresses the deeply flawed nature of the Company’s investigation. Although the events underlying the Coffeemaker Incident occurred between November 11-14, 2025, the Company did not release the results of its investigation until January 5, 2026. Union members remained on administrative suspension for over a month and a half. The investigation also failed to identify a root cause of the incident, instead placing blame on the AME who responded to the defect.

Now, in the immediate aftermath of AMFA’s filing, the Company has tried to cast blame on another one of its employees. The Company has taken zero responsibility for its failure to provide adequate resources to the maintenance crews that accompany the Canadian Armed Forces CC-150 fleet on critical tasking missions. This new discipline comes three (3) months after the original incident, and the Company has provided no explanation for the delay. The timing of the discipline is clear evidence that the Company is trying to cover its tracks; cleaning up the crumbs now that the issue is before the Board.

Prior to filing its ULP charge, AMFA made every effort to resolve these issues directly with L3 Harris. The Company has insisted that its 28-day suspension of Mr. Askin is appropriate, despite Mr. Askin's efforts to address the defect and maintain compliance with Company policies and procedures. This excessive discipline issued to a union officer is sadly not the first of its kind at L3. AMFA’s ULP outlines the disappointing labour relations history that has plagued the relationship between the two parties.

The freedom of association is a fundamental element of Canadian democracy and is protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Canada Labour Code. Anti-union action by an employer violates these rights and cannot be tolerated.

As this situation unfolds, we ask that members continue operating with the highest level of professionalism and follow all policies and procedures without fail. The work that you perform each day ensures aircraft are safe and fit for flight, and that responsibility outweighs all others.
