AMFA Working Together
March has been quite busy for the Association. Not only was National preparing for and conducting a Local Officer Training session this month, but we were also helping the locals prepare their year-end Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Labor (DOL) paperwork that is due each year. These can be more tedious than preparing your personal taxes, and the Local Treasurer works diligently to ensure that the required forms accurately portray the local's finances - down to the penny. This process takes hours if not days and requires great concentration. National staff traveled to each local and helped your Local Treasurer accomplish the work. This is a great example of how and why National and the Locals work together.
We were also working on the final touches of the AMFA App that will be released soon to the membership. We are excited about the progress and only have one more test to complete before the release occurs. Our grievance database will be accessible via the App to those who are authorized to use GrievTrac and should help make it more convenient for our contract representatives to accomplish their responsibilities. Those that download the app and have a National Website log-on and password established will be able to see their respective AMFA number each time they open the App. We are expecting a late April release, so pay close attention to the National Website for further updates.
One of AMFA's goals is educational outreach and National was pleased to choose a recipient for our 2015 Scholarship. We provide $2,500 to a student attending A&P school. Each applicant is required to submit their transcript and write an essay regarding why they chose our craft. There were many outstanding applicants and we are pleased to announce Kyle Johnson as this year's recipient. He is currently attending Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and represents the future of our profession. Congratulations Kyle!
Moving forward, the Association is sponsoring the Maintenance Skills Competition in Miami, FL on April 14-16. Both of our carriers, Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines are fielding a team and we'll be on hand to cheer them on. There is also more work being done on the Safety Initiative.
Finally, remember to always be professional. You truly are the face of our craft and should do your best to represent our virtues of "knowledge, skill, integrity, and professionalism."
