Dear Jazz Aviation LP AMEs and Skilled Trade Groups:
The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) representative election between Unifor and AMFA concluded today, and your remarkable participation resulted in an overwhelming majority vote for AMFA. We are pleased to inform you that the Board’s official certification of AMFA as your bargaining representative is expected in the coming days.
We are honored by your trust and unity as a skilled trade group at Jazz—your decision to select AMFA as your trade union underscores the collective desire to elevate your profession. We eagerly anticipate the next steps, including the nomination and election of AMFA–Jazz representatives, as well as the opportunity to submit contract amendment proposals. This marks the beginning of your group’s collective bargaining process under AMFA aimed at enhancing your working standards and securing greater recognition of your skills in the workplace. AMFA’s mission is to champion and advance the craft/trade, ensuring the significance of your expertise is acknowledged and rewarded.
Your grassroots efforts have led to a notable achievement—becoming Canada's fourth AMFA-represented AME and skilled trade group. The leadership, dedication, and persistence demonstrated by your Organizing Committee have been invaluable throughout this certification process. As a result of the CIRB’s decision, you can now move forward with confidence knowing that you hold the reins to shape your future as one unified craft/trade group. Together, we will work to improve your working conditions, enhance workplace culture, and ensure your contributions are recognized.
Just so you know – a volunteer transition team is already in place, including an Interim AMFA-Jazz Aviation Airline Representative (ALR), Justin Lang, who will be your primary point of contact. The ALR oversees the enforcement of current work rules, pay, retirement, and benefits. The Interim Area Representative(s) and Interim Shop Representative(s) assist the ALR and support communication and operational matters on the floor.
During this transition, we trust Jazz Aviation management will uphold their professional obligations and refrain from making unilateral changes to your working conditions without engaging in collective bargaining with AMFA. Should any issues arise, we encourage you to remain professional, continue fulfilling your responsibilities, and promptly inform an AMFA representative of any concerns. A meeting will be scheduled with Jazz Aviation management to ensure a smooth transition process.
In the coming weeks, you will receive a Digital New Member Package, including an Application for Membership. We will also conduct nominations and elections to duly elect the AMFA–Jazz ALR as well as other union positions.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your AMFA-Jazz Transition Committee.
In Solidarity,
Bret Oestreich
National President
