AMFA and Horizon Air Reach Tentative Agreement for Aircraft Maintenance Technicians and Related Employees
CENTENNIAL, CO – March 30, 2022 – After almost six months of negotiations, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) and Horizon Air (QX) announced a second Tentative Agreement (TA) on a proposed contract for the airline’s Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs), AC Cleaners, and Maintenance Shop Equipment Technicians.
This TA is a regional industry-changing agreement with significant pay increases on the average 24% over the two-year duration of agreement, negotiation openers in 18 months, industry leading license premiums, industry leading shortened pay progression scale, 1.75% in down year, and ratification payout equal to retroactive pay to January 28, 2022.
“The AMT and related employees are major contributors to Horizon’s efficiency, safety record, reliability, increased flight schedules to cover and replace Alaska's mainline, and successful navigate through the pandemic. This TA is a viable solution to help the carrier attract and retain tenured, skilled Technicians as they forge through the impending shortage of aviation professionals industry wide. Our members have had their pay frozen at rates from 2020, with no bonuses or wage increases,” said Bret Oestreich, AMFA National President. “This offer allows Horizon to take care of their skilled and dedicated employees and ensures flexibility for future growth.”
“Our priorities are always to raise the the industry standards, increase the recognition of our craft, protect our current and future work, advocate for innovative industry leading wages, increase skill premiums and enhance benefits. Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction in respecting and recognizing the importance and relevance of our technician workgroups thus emphasizing and advocating the importance of taking care of our skilled members,” said Oestreich.
“We would like to offer our sincere gratitude to all who participated in the negotiation process, and for your continued dedication and tenacity towards achieving the AMFA-QX TA #2. Now the membership’s voice will be heard in a ratification vote in the coming weeks,” said Oestreich.
